I tried for a long time to do this, and Gemini came up with a way-easy way.
GNOME and Cinnamon have a built-in feature where you can assign a hotkey just by hovering over a menu item.
- Open Nemo and right-click a folder to open the context menu.
- Hover your mouse cursor directly over Open Folder in qView (do not click it).
- While your mouse is hovering over the option, press your desired keyboard shortcut (e.g.,
Ctrl+Shift+Q). - Look closely at the text. The shortcut should instantly appear right next to the name in the menu.
Note: If pressing the keys does nothing, open your terminal and run
gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.interface gtk-menu-shadows true or check if editable-menu-accels is enabled in your system settings, as some modern themes block live menu editing. It appears to end up in two places: .config/nemo/actions-tree.json and accels
{
"uuid": "qview.nemo_action",
"type": "action",
"user-label": null,
"user-icon": null,
"accelerator": "<Alt><Super>q"
},
"uuid": "qview.nemo_action",
"type": "action",
"user-label": null,
"user-icon": null,
"accelerator": "<Alt><Super>q"
},
and
(gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/NemoActions/context/qview" "<Super><Mod1>q")
